Roseann Nieman Returns To Create The Cover of "A New Voice For A Broken Soul" by Paul A. Ray

We are so blessed and absolutely delighted to have Roseann working with us again, this time on special assignment to create the cover of Paul's life-changing book.

A New Voice For A Broken Soul continues to move through the various stages toward publication.

Award-winning book design, layout, and packager Erin Howarth of DDM publications worked with Paul to create an interior design that compliments the exceptional content. Paul has an extraordinary way with words, because he is truly inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Nancy Carabio Belanger, from award-winning publishing company Harvey House Publishing, professionally copy edited the text. John-Paul Belanger is also a vital member of the team who read through the book and offered his invaluable suggestions.

Currently, Paul is making his final revisions to the manuscript. As he does so, award-winning graphic designer Roseann Nieman, from Niemanart Graphics, is working to integrate text, photos, Paul's concept design, and the magnificent image created by photographer Mike Nykoruk of Highlight Studios, to produce an exceptional cover.

Fr. Ben Kosnac is another vital member of our publishing team, and we are grateful to him as well for helping recreate the scene for the cover image, which is based upon an extraordinary event that occurs in the book.

The excitement is building as the team gets closer to completing A New Voice For A Broken Soul.

Joseph Karl Publishing Submits Its Work For Consideration To The Catholic Press Association's 2012 Catholic Press and Book Awards

The next generation of Catholic publishers continues its work to inspire, promote ongoing faith formation throughout the lifespan and around the world, encourage forgiveness and healing, defend human dignity, and guide precious, immortal souls to Christ. God is at work in you!

From one of its nominations for Individual Excellence/Photography, describing the genesis and development of its Catholic and pro-life photo collection:

The images, taken for Joseph Karl Publishing, were initially meant to be paired with the text of blog postings, but their significance, purpose, and reach extended considerably and almost immediately.

Through 2011, the images were posted on various social media sites including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The images resonated with people in a very special way, one by one. Soon, there were enough pictures to post in albums on Facebook and iCatholic. The pictures were also published on Joseph Karl Publishing’s website, have appeared on book covers (including God Moments II: Recognizing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, nominated in several categories of the 2012 Catholic Book Awards), and the postings and albums were expanded to Google +, three blogs, Joseph Karl Publishing on Facebook, True Love Leads To Life on Facebook, Apostolate Films on Facebook, and other blogs upon request. Some of the images, such as those used as blog headers, were changed to suit the time of year or various holy days.

Many people have shared the images with others around the world, or have asked for permission to use the pictures for various purposes. One man asked if he could use a picture taken during Eucharistic Adoration to promote Adoration at his parish. A young man asked to share several images with people in his country, Indonesia, one of which was taken during the Consecration at a Tridentine Mass. He explained that not many Tridentine Masses are celebrated there and he wanted to share its beauty and immeasurable worth with others who do not have the opportunity to participate in them. Another delightful young man will be making his final vows as a Capuchin in June, and asked if he could put one of the images, of Jesus on the Cross reaching down to St. Francis, on a prayer card he was creating.

Sometimes the images lead people on social networking sites to write requesting more information about the Catholic faith, or lead to exchanges beginning with questions such as "Does God really love me?" or "Do I matter?" One man in the RCIA program was so captivated by the images from Holy Mass and Adoration, he had to experience the Mass at the parish where they were taken.

Most of the images were taken, with permission, during Holy Mass or Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Slovak Catholic Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Others were taken at various parishes, a hospital, medical center, a cemetery, and in neighborhoods. The images have been organized into categories, including, "God Is So In Love With You", “Thank Heaven for Altar Boys” , “Discover or Rediscover the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic, & Pro-Life Church”, “The Real Presence”, “Corpus Christi”, “Advent/Christmas”, and “Love Never Ends.”

The unique images have encouraged readers/viewers to see the majesty of Catholicism through a different lens, in a way they had perhaps never considered. The pictures serve to guide souls into greater Divine intimacy and leave them with at least a glimpse of their immeasurable value in the eyes of God. The images also celebrate the extraordinary beauty of the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic, and Pro-Life Church at a time of great need for them, and at a time when they are in very short supply.

At one point in 2011, borders and captions were added to the published pictures to let viewers through time and place know important information about them, to evangelize and inspire, or for purposes of instruction. The pictures have become a vital tool that Joseph Karl Publishing uses to fulfill its mission to inspire, promote ongoing faith formation throughout the lifespan and around the world, defend human dignity, encourage forgiveness and healing, and guide precious, immortal souls to Christ.

The images have also been used to create slideshows and short videos through Joseph Karl Publishing's film division, Apostolate Films; one of those videos, “His Love Is Indescribable” (nominated for a 2012 press award), was shown during the International Conference on Eucharistic Adoration in Rome in June 2011.

Pro-life images were also added in 2011 when Joseph Karl Publishing launched the global and unprecedented pro-life movement True Love Leads To Life. The images from the pro-life collection aim to defend human dignity by educating, encouraging people to rethink abortion, and visually displaying the love God has for mankind. Those images have appeared on pro-choice, pro-life, and abortion provider sites and social networks all over the world.

The images in Joseph Karl Publishing's collection are expressions of God's immeasurable and unfathomable love for every single one of us, while the Holy Spirit is responsible for all that has been and continues to be accomplished through them.

In early 2012, the best of the images will be available for purchase through Joseph Karl Publishing for use by individuals, families, teachers, Catechists, groups, and organizations, in homes, the workplace, schools, businesses, parishes, group homes, hospitals, prisons, libraries, organizations, and groups. JKP Wraps Up 2011 With Many Exciting Assignments In Development

The team at Joseph Karl Publishing sets its sights on producing material for 2012 and beyond that encourages, inspires, promotes ongoing Catholic faith formation throughout the lifespan, and guides precious, eternal souls to Jesus and toward heaven.

We also continue with our mission to love, educate, and role-model and end to abortion and euthanasia, and to promote help and healing for the countless people in need all over the world.

Before we take our Christmas break, here's an update of our heavenly assignments currently in development:
God Moments II: Recognizing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit was released in early October; many wonderful Catholics generously gave their time to write stories and/or help create the insightful book. It truly was a group effort and labor of love. Together, we make up the Mystical Body of Christ. Together, we bring honor and glory to the Blessed Trinity, and accomplish even more for precious, eternal souls.

With that very thought in mind, JKP recently launched Corpus Meum. Corpus Meum is a group of authentic Catholic companies and organizations that work to encourage, inspire, guide souls to Christ and to heaven, and promote Catholic faith formation and together, make up the Mystical Body of Christ. Perhaps you know some of them, and perhaps some are new to you; all of their work is worth knowing about. Authentic Catholic companies and organizations are welcome to apply (there is no charge to be a member). We ask that the primary focus of Corpus Meum companies and organizations be clearly on serving God and not on any particular individual (or individuals), and that requests for donations on members' sites be at most minimal.

As of the first week in December, all of our current titles except the picture book Our Treasure have been converted to Kindle format, and are available for purchase as e-books on Kindle! In the future, newly published titles will be available for purchase on Kindle at the time the print versions of the books are released.

Ray's life-changing book, A New Voice For A Broken Soul has just been professionally copy edited by our stellar colleague Nancy Carabio Belanger of Harvey House Publishing (www.littleflowerbook.com), and will be final edited in January. We thank our outstanding graphic designer Roseann Nieman of Niemanart Graphics for her dedicated service. Roseann started a new job at the end of the summer, and she has proven irreplaceable. She was the glue that held us together as we worked to meet deadlines on many different projects. Roseann did such a wonderful job integrating our vision for projects as she considered other possibilities and created logos, book covers, flyers, a postcard, and various business cards. Her book covers included Your Teen and Preteen Apostolate books, God Moments and God Moments II, Our Treasure, and One Man's Journey to Freedom: Escape From Behind the Iron Curtain. Her cover designs and stellar finishing touches have earned several book design awards. Thank you, Roseann!

Change brings some uncertainty but also other possibilities, and Joseph Karl Publishing has accepted the challenge and is doing more graphic design in house. We are still looking for a professional graphic designer to work with on a project by project basis, as we have some exciting new projects in the works! More about those early in 2012.

Work continues on God Moments III: True Love Leads To Life and the stories we have compiled so far are life-changing, and hopefully also life saving. We are hoping that the book will be a wonderful compliment to the vital work already being accomplished by the various organizations and individuals within the pro-life movement, and result in saved lives while promoting healing for those harmed by abortion.

Work also continues on the official brochure for the new pro-life movement True Love Leads To Life. Several formal pro-life summons, or invitations, have been created and distributed on the world wide web, and more are in the works. They officially invite individuals to use their talents for good and to peacefully defend life. We are also continuously adding to our pro-life picture gallery. The summons and pro-life images may be digitally copied and shared, or printed out and shared (not sold) with others.

Work has also begun on God Moments IV, which is untitled at this moment but will be made up of God moments stories having to do with encounters with the saints, our friends and intercessors in heaven. The projected publication date for the fourth book in the God Moments series is late 2012.
The team at Apostolate Films has begun collecting information, audio, video, pictures, and personal testimonials for the documentary film on Servant of God, Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J. The film is now in pre-production, and will be created in collaboration with writer and director Jason Salyers of Converse Marketing. Jason directed the wonderful film Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, Servant of All. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with Jason, and to be making a film about greatly beloved Fr. Hardon, whose work is so vital for our time and not widely known.

We also have a series of posters of various sizes in development. The pictures are being chosen from the very best of our photo collection, which includes very beautiful images taken during Eucharistic Exposition, Holy Mass, and in and around the extraordinary parish of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Slovak Roman Catholic Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan, U.S.A. We hope to have the first posters available in early 2012.

We are also in the process of establishing a foundation that provides life-changing material to our brothers and sisters in need of compassion in hospitals, medical centers, and prisons. The official logo is ready and material has already been distributed; all we need now is a name.

We look forward to providing much more life-changing material worthy of your great dignity in 2012 and beyond.

"Andrew, like his brother Simon Peter, was a fisherman. He became a disciple of the great St. John the Baptist, but when John pointed to Jesus and said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" Andrew understood that Jesus was greater. At once he left John to follow the Divine Master. Jesus knew that Andrew was walking behind him, and turning back, he asked, "what do you seek?" When Andrew answered that he would like to know where Jesus lived, Our Lord replied, "Come and see."

"It is generally agreed that he was crucified by order of the Roman Governor, Aegeas or Aegeates, at Patrae in Achaia, and that he was bound, not nailed, to the cross, in order to prolong his sufferings. The cross on which he suffered is commonly held to have been the decussate cross, now known as St. Andrew's, though the evidence for this view seems to be no older than the fourteenth century. His martyrdom took place during the reign of Nero, on 30 November, A.D. 60); and both the Latin and Greek Churches keep 30 November as his feast.

"St. Andrew's relics were translated from Patrae to Constantinople, and deposited in the church of the Apostles there, about A.D. 357. Our family was blessed by the miraculous intercession of St. Andrew 18 years ago. In fact, he teamed up with St. Therese and we have been overjoyed ever since!

On November 30, 1993, I began saying the St. Andrew Novena Prayer to Obtain Favors, and asked that God send us a child. I also prayed to my dear friend St. Therese, and asked her to send me yellow roses as a sign that our first baby was on the way.

For Christmas that year, a very kind colleague at Children's Hospital, whom I did not know very well, surprised me with a rose-scented lotion set. I still have one of the bottles.

On February 2nd, 1994 I received a birthday card with a bouquet of yellow roses on the cover. I didn't notice at first; it was a day or two later when I was looking at the card and noticed the yellow roses on the front of the card, and at that moment knew for certain that my prayers had been answered.

On October 27, 1994, my beloved son Andre Joseph was born. He just celebrated his 17th birthday, and what a tremendous gift he remains to this day.

Happy Feast of St. Giuseppe Moscati!

Be sure you know the medical doctor, professor, biochemistry pioneer, humanitarian, and exceptionally loving man who truly lived and served in imitation of Christ.

Giuseppe Moscati was born in 1880 in Benevento, Italy, to pious, aristocratic Italian parents. He was the seventh of nine children. His father, Francesco, was a well-known lawyer and his mother, Rosa De Luca dei Marchesi di Roseto, came from nobility. In 1884 Francesco moved the family to Naples, the city where Giuseppe spent most of the rest of his life.

The family vacationed each year in Avellino, and attended Mass at the chapel of the Poor Clare nuns where Francesco served at the altar. On December 8th 1888, Giuseppe received his First Holy Communion from Monsignor Enrico Marano, in the Ancelle del Sacro Cuore (Church of the Maids of the Sacred Heart) in Naples. That was the beginning of his Eucharistic life, one of the sources of Dr. Moscati’s sanctity. 1

In 1892, when Giuseppe was thirteen, his older brother Alberto, a lieutenant in the artillery, fell from his horse during a military parade. He sustained a significant head injury which resulted in recurring epilepsy. Giuseppe spent a great deal of time helping care for his injured brother, a sure sign of his true vocation in life. What he witnessed through his brother's care led Giuseppe to become interested in medicine and make the vital determination that the healing power of religion was more successful in treating patients than man-made remedies.

Following the completion of his elementary education 1889, Giuseppe entered high school and from 1889-97 attended the Liceo Vittorio Emanuele Institute in Naples. He began his medical studies in 1897, the same year his father died. On April 4, 1903 he graduated “summa cum laude” with a doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Naples.

Immediately after graduation, Dr. Moscati began working at the Ospedali Ruinity degli Incurabili (Hospital of the Incurables), where he became an administrator. He also continued his studies and conducted medical research.

On April 8, 1906, Mount Vesuvius erupted. In a genuine act of selflessness, Giuseppe heroically rescued the patients trapped inside the hospital at Torre del Greco, which was located just a few miles from the volcano’s crater, just before the roof collapsed from the weight of the ash.

In 1911 there was an outbreak of cholera in Naples. Giuseppe worked day and night treating the poor without charge, giving witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is well known for showing great respect for the dead. In an outpouring of Christ’s call to love our neighbor in humility and simplicity, he allowed the faithful to follow in procession singing hymns of the Church as the bodies of the deceased were removed from the streets. Giuseppe also labored to prevent cholera from spreading by performing public health inspections while researching the causes of the disease and striving to eradicate it.

Also in 1911, Giuseppe became a member of the Royal Academy of Surgical Medicine and received his doctorate in physiological chemistry. His brother Alberto died on June 12, 1914; Giuseppe mourned the loss of his brother for the rest of his life. His mother, who was diabetic, died in late 1914 from the disease, which was untreatable at that time. She said to her surviving children after receiving the sacraments before she died, "My dearest, you let me die satisfied. Always avoid sin, which is the greatest evil of life." 2

Giuseppe provided insight into the sanctity of his parents in a letter he wrote to a woman who had lost her mother. "As a boy I lost my father and then, when I was an adult, my mother. Now, both of them always stand by me. I feel their sweet company. Whenever I try to imitate them, always so good and upright, I feel their encouragement and if I deviate they incite me to do the right thing, just like they used to tell me when they were still living..." 3

In 1915, Italy entered World War I. Professor Moscati asked for voluntary enlistment but was assigned to the care of wounded soldiers at the militarized Incurabili Hospital. He is remembered for visiting, effectively treating, and consoling approximately 3000 wounded soldiers. In 1919 he became director of one of the local men’s schools and continued teaching. In 1922 the professor was given a libera docenza in clinical medicine, which gave him the credentials to teach at institutes of higher education.

St. Giuseppe Moscati was very dedicated to his studies and proved himself to be not only a brilliant diagnostician, but a caring and charitable doctor. He is perhaps most known and loved for his Christlike bedside manner, and began a revolution in medicine that changed and improved the way doctors treated their patients. He was a medical pioneer, and among the first to stimulate the heart through what is now known as CPR. He was one of the first doctors in Naples to experiment with insulin to treat diabetes. Giuseppe was respected and admired for his extraordinary courage and compassion, but was also accused of witch doctoring because of his methods, which were at the time unconventional and cutting-edge.

Giuseppe was a forensic surgeon and director of the Pathological Anatomy Institute as well, and known as a master of conducting autopsies. Additionally, he wrote 27 scientific publications from the time he earned his degree in 1903 to the year 1916.

A pivotal event for Giuseppe and for so many others occurred when he cared for a terminally ill woman at his home until her death. She was the friend of a friend, and had been afraid to stay at the hospital. Subsequent to this, people started going to his home seeking medical care. The doctor gave his patients money and food in addition to their prescriptions. Giuseppe and his sister Anna ("Nina") sold most of their family's belongings to continue helping care for sick people in need. Nina assisted her brother Giuseppe in his vital work serving the sick. Their brother Eugenio remarked, "In doing good, he had Nina as his ally." 4

Nina Moscati

During his remarkable lifetime, St. Moscati had attended Holy Mass daily, had taken a vow of chastity, retired regularly for prayer, and practiced heroic charity by viewing his work as a means of alleviating suffering.

God called Giuseppe Moscati home to his eternal reward on April 12, 1927, at the age of 46. The holy physician of Naples left behind an extraordinary legacy of sharing the love of Christ with those in need. His body is interred in the former Church of Gesu Neuvo, now known as the Church of St. Giuseppe Moscati. His Eminence Cardinal Ascalesi remarked at Giuseppe’s interment, "The doctor belonged to the Church. It was not those whose bodies he had cured, but whose souls he had saved who were waiting to greet him when he left this earth." Nina survived him by four years.

Giuseppe Moscati wrote this letter in 1919:

"When I was a boy I looked with interest to the Incurabili hospital as my father showed me that far from the house terrace. It inspired me pity feelings for the pain without name, calmed in those walls. A beneficial dismay took me and I started to think about the frailty of all the things, and the illusions passed, as falling flowers of the orange groves surrounding me. Then I was completely fallen in my starting literary studies, and I did not suspect or dream that, a day, in that white building, to whose large windows patients were hardly visible, as white ghosts, I would have held the supreme clinical degree. […] I will try, with the God help, with my minimal strengths, to deserve your complete trust, and to collaborate to the economic reconstruction of the old Neapolitan hospitals, so well deserving in term of charity and culture, and nowadays so poor." 5

Pilgrims continue to visit his office and humble examining room, where hundreds of plaques on the walls provide testimony to the cures granted by God through the intercession of this extraordinary man who practiced heroic virtue by living in imitation of Christ.

The Holy Physician of Naples lived to the fullness of St. Paul’s words, “Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important as yourselves. Each looking out not for his own interests, but everyone also for those of others.” Philippians 2:3-4. He is a saint who left us a most profound example of humility and an ability to use one’s God-given talents to truly serve others.

Dr. Giuseppe Moscati was beatified by the Roman Catholic Church on November 16, 1975. The miraculous healing of a young ironworker with terminal cancer was St. Moscati’s canonization miracle. The man’s mother dreamt of a doctor wearing a white coat and subsequently identified him from a photograph as Giuseppe Moscati. Not long after that, the man was cured and returned to work. He was canonized on October 25, 1987 by Pope John Paul II and is the first modern doctor to be declared a saint. His feast day is November 16.

St. Giuseppe Moscati's life story is presented in the beautiful movie St. Giuseppe Moscati: Doctor to the Poor (Ignatius Press: 2010). The timeless Italian film (177 minutes) has English and Spanish subtitles. The movie highlights Dr. Moscati’s vocation as a physician in Italy where he mended people’s sick and injured bodies as well as their spirits with acts of kindness.

It is so well done, and St. Moscati’s life story so worth knowing, you will want to see it over and over again. The film deviated from fact by adding a love interest and a rivalry with a friend and colleague. These fictitious accounts aptly provide viewers the opportunity to consider their own choices and examine if and how they will serve God using the gifts they have been given.

Be sure to see this very special movie, more than once, and learn about the medical doctor, professor, biochemistry pioneer, humanitarian, and exceptionally loving man who truly lived and served in imitation of Christ.

Rochester, MI (November 8, 2011) – Joseph Karl Publishing announced today that their subsidiary, Apostolate Films, is beginning preproduction on a new documentary about the life and impact of Servant of God Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J.—a little known but extraordinarily influential priest who helped define what American Catholics are taught and believe.

“Father Hardon was a remarkable priest, but he was always a remarkable man,” says executive producer, Michele Bondi Bottesi. “In an era plagued with controversy and rumors, he helped shape untold thousands of lives and he did so with exceptional character, talent and inspiration. American Catholics need heroes of the faith today, men of God like Fr. John Hardon.”

The film is a collaborative effort between Apostolate Films and Converse Marketing (http://www.conversemarketing.com) and it is being written and directed by Jason Salyers, who wrote and directed the powerful documentary, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen: Servant of All (www.Sheenfil m.org), which has been viewed globally and also in a number of major U.S. cities on PBS television.

The film will integrate pictures, video clips, personal testimonials, and other mediums to reveal how Fr. Hardon and his extraordinary works impacted the lives of countless individuals—and how he continues to affect people today.

An acquaintance on Facebook mixed plastic crosses and other Christian-themed goodies in with the sweet edible treats in her candy bowl, and shared the sweet love of God with many loved and valued children that night.

Wishing our friends a very happy anniversary celebration.

For three decades, Saint Luke Productions has led a renewal of Catholic culture through theater and the media by bringing professional theatrical and feature film dramas on the life of Christ and His saints to audiences of over one million people throughout the English-speaking world. The apostolate began in 1980, when founder and Shakespearean actor Leonardo Defilippis considered presenting the Gospel of Luke in a new form, as a one-man production that would tour churches in the Northwest United States for one season. He proceeded after being encouraged by Mother Teresa of Calcutta to “Do something beautiful for God.”

No expense was spared in the production. Audiences in more than one hundred churches were captivated by the powerful impact of Defilippis’ performances, and the life-changing effect and dedication to quality continues to this day. Saint Luke Productions has evolved into a professional non-profit company whose ten live productions have toured the United States, Canada, and Europe.

Productions are based on historical, scriptural, and modern-day stories that inspire audiences to a deeper desire for the Truth of Jesus Christ. Its films and live dramas have won numerous national and international awards, and have been aired for decades on cable and network stations. Saint Luke Productions also educates and encourages artists and young people by providing internships, workshops, and employment in their office and production company.

While Saint Luke Productions’ vision is Catholic, testimonials have revealed that people of all faiths have been touched, changed, and strengthened by the love of God manifesting itself through their work. Leonardo and his wife Patti, a screenwriter, director, and speaker, established the production company within the context of family. As parents of seven children, they understand that a renewal of the culture depends upon a renewal of family life.

Saint Luke Productions formally celebrates its thirtieth anniversary today, October 18, 2011 (also the Feast of St. Luke), and plans to commemorate its extraordinary milestone throughout the next year. Leonardo Defilippis is grateful and humbled to have spent his life bringing sanctity to the performing arts. "I could never have imagined," says Defilippis, "that this vision of creating dramas and films on the greatest lives of the human race, who have changed the course of history, would continue and flourish in a world where religious art is not appreciated, or in many cases, simply ignored. “

Leonardo and Patti Defilippis continue their mission of renewing Catholic culture for people longing for spiritual works of art that provide a personal encounter with Christ and His saints. “When I think back on how we started and where we are today, I clearly see that God blesses those who step out in trust and take risks for His sake. This is the miracle of faith and creation itself," Leonardo Defilippis concluded.

Live Theatrical Performances: VIANNEY

While feature films have tremendous value because they reach a much broader audience, Defilippis is partial to the more personal nature of live theatrical dramas. The current Saint Luke Productions project, VIANNEY (vianneydrama.com), is in its third year on a nationwide tour. Based on the life of St. John Vianney of France (1786 - 1859), who has been recognized by Pope Benedict XVI as a model for all priests and laity, the production is one of the most popular one-person shows in America. Defilippis is passionate about sharing the valuable story of an ideal hero for our era, “A priest who, like Christ, pours himself out with complete unselfishness and who never gives up on a single soul.”

VIANNEY will continue on tour in the United States, Canada, and internationally through 2012.

“The play brings a message of hope during a time of great challenge for the Catholic Church, by emphasizing the importance of the priesthood, and the roles of the priest for the people and the people for the priest,” stressed Defilippis. “It’s a crucial time in society where there are a lot of misunderstandings and a lack of hope for the world,” he said.

Priests and seminarians have reported the experience led to a re-examination of conscience and of their priesthood, and to an awakening of their first love. Defilippis hopes the play also sparks new vocations. He sees signs of hope in the many youth who have approached him following performances with queries about the priesthood and religious life. “Christianity cannot exist without the priesthood. Not to embrace the priesthood is not to embrace Christ. In the end when you die, you will meet the priest, Jesus Christ,” said Defilippis.

"Leonardo DeFilippis' portrayal of St. Vianney in the Saint Luke Production VIANNEY inspired me to learn more about the saint's love for Jesus. In turn, my love for our Lord grew as I began to recite the St. John Vianney prayer and now I ask daily for the saint's prayerful intercession as I continue my discernment to the priesthood," said Gregory Piatt, seminarian for the Archdiocese of Detroit at Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Massachusetts.

Films

Saint Luke Productions launched a feature films division, Luke Films, in 2000. Its most notable accomplishment is the feature film THÉRÈSE, the story of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, which was shown in mainstream movie theaters for an unprecedented 70 weeks. THÉRÈSE was the first major motion picture distributed solely by an independent Catholic film company, and was funded entirely by donations. Now available on DVD, the film continues to inspire numerous conversions and vocations.

"I Will Hold It All Together"

What a week it was here at Joseph Karl Publishing! We sometimes feel like master jugglers with so many different things going on all at once. Do you feel that way, too?

One day a few years back, I was driving toward my former parish for daily Mass after dropping my children off at their schools. Right there in the van, all of a sudden while on Hamlin Road, I felt the presence of God within me in a way I had never experienced before. Without a doubt I knew it was Him, and I also knew that if it was not for God's intervention holding me together, I would have exploded into millions of pieces. Imagine a human being containing almighty God, the Creator of the Universe!

And yet by His power, we are able to receive Him at every Holy Mass during Holy Communion.
God is so in love with us.

I wondered for one year what the significance of that event was. Then one afternoon, I was meeting with my friend and colleague Brian Dittmer at a coffee shop. We covered lots of ground during that meeting. After Brian left, I collected my things to leave, and all of a sudden I received an understanding of the significance of the experience I had in my van the year before. During that experience of God's presence within me so profoundly I thought I would explode, God had held me together. And there in the coffee shop, while working to accomplish all the things He asked through Joseph Karl Publishing, and often wondering how it could all be done, He made this vow: "I will hold it all together."

This is how we proceed with our heavenly assignments, fully confident that He will hold everything together. He does, through good times and in bad, in sickness and in health.

This week, I met with Roseann Nieman from Niemanart Graphics, head of graphic design at JKP. We are collaborating on Paul A. Ray's book cover for A New Voice for a Broken Soul, the brochure for True Love Leads To Life, the cover of God Moments III, and some other surprises we have in store for you.

I met with Mike Nykoruk of Highlights Studios to discuss Paul's book cover, a book in development for 2012, and an upcoming photo shoot. Mike recently completed the phenomenal cover image of Paul's book. Once the back cover text is edited, the text and Mike's images will go to Roseann Nieman who will integrate everything to complete the front and back covers. We just can't wait to present Paul's life-changing book to you.

As soon as the cover is completely finished, we will notify our friends at Catholic TV, who filmed Paul at the Catholic Press Association Convention in Pittsburgh discussing his book, which will be released by JKP in December, 2012. We will share more information when it becomes available.

We also began pre-production of Apostolate Film's much anticipated documentary on the life and mission of a remarkable priest. We are overjoyed to be collaborating with Jason Salyers(http://www.youtube.com/user/SalyersJason), who directed the beautiful documentary film Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen: Servant of All. Publishing colleague and Marian Catechist Susan Schoenstein is our anchor. :>) Currently, we are collecting video, audio, personal testimonials, and photographs for the film's trailer.

Work continues on God Moments III: True Love Leads To Life which we hope to publish by the end of 2011. The pro-life stories are coming in, and we will be sharing them as we complete this life-changing and life-saving book. Also in development is the global new pro-life movement True Love Leads To Life. Currently the board of directors is collaborating to refine the mission statement and develop your personal pro-life summons. Your invitation will be coming soon! We are also developing the official brochure, which will also be designed by Roseann.

We continue with our point-and-shoot photography campaigns (God points and we shoot) and are expanding our pro-life image gallery as well as adding to and developing new series for JKP's gallery "God Is So In Love With Us." The newest series, one of my most favorite, is "Discover or Rediscover the One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic, and Pro-Life Church."

Following our interview with actor and director Leonardo Defilippis, writers Nancy Carabio Belanger, Paul A. Ray, and I have been collaborating on a very special article about the life-changing work at Saint Luke Productions,which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary of in just a few weeks. We will provide a link to the article when it is published.

We are also working on a posting about the Catholic Revolver with Jerry Weber and will have information on Jerry's wonderful work up soon! And the phenomenal apostolate of Ellen Gable Hrkach at Full Quiver Publishing will be highlighted soon as well.

Award-winning author Gene X. Kortsha

And before the week comes to a close, we hope to deliver some books to award-winning author Gene X. Kortsha, who is scheduled to give four talks at three different locations in the upcoming weeks. Gene is a brilliant speaker and will discuss history and humanity and the experiences documented in his book, One Man's Journey to Freedom: Escape From Behind the Iron Curtain, which the Catholic Press Association described as "In a league by itself." We hope to record several of his talks and create a CD companion to Gene's phenomenal, life-changing book.

God Moments II: Recognizing the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, will be delivered very soon and we await word on delivery of the first print run of this life-changing compilation.

Additionally, we are creating a storyboard for Apostolate Film's first short film, which will be on one of our favorite subjects, the Eucharist.

God provides, and He continues to hold it all together, just like He promised.

CULVER CITY, CA (Sept. 29, 2011) – TriStar Pictures and Sherwood Pictures are pleased to announce that COURAGEOUS, the latest installment from Sherwood Pictures, has reached more than $2 million in pre-sales ticketing in anticipation of Friday’s national release.

Pre-sales numbers for COURAGEOUS more than double that of Sherwood Pictures’ most recent film, Fireproof, which opened at $6.8 million and went on to gross more than $33.4 million at the box office.

COURAGEOUS is the fourth release from the movie making ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. The first release was Flywheel (2003), followed by Facing The Giants (2006) and Fireproof (2008). With each release, Sherwood Pictures continues to entertain moviegoers with films that affect lives through heartfelt stories of faith and hope.
